Thyme is an evergreen herb in the mint family, commonly used in Italian and French cuisine.
Use Newman’s Own™ Ground Thyme on meats, poultry, vegetables, as well as in dressings, soups, stews, marinades, and tomato-based sauces, as well as to flavor cheeses, beans and lentils, and even tea. It is an excellent addition to omelets and eggs.
Pairs well with basil, bay, chives, garlic, marjoram, oregano, parsley, rosemary, sage, savory, and tarragon.
With a hearty flavor and bold taste, thyme retains its flavor on drying better than many other herbs. When substituting dried thyme for fresh, use roughly one-third of the volume of fresh thyme called for in the recipe as the flavor of dried thyme is much stronger than fresh. As with most dried herbs, it should be added toward the beginning of the recipe.
